Bringing together more than 100 attendees, the latest DEF Biologic and Small Molecule NP/PA CME Bootcamp in Dallas last month provided up to the minute information about advanced treatment approaches for common inflammatory skin diseases and practical guidance for diagnosis and treatment. After a series of virtual events, this latest Bootcamp marked the return of the in-person learning format and was met with enthusiasm from attendees, faculty, and industry partners alike.

The next in-person DEF Biologic and Small Molecule NP/PA CME Bootcamp is Saturday, November 4 in Scottsdale, AZ. It is the final program in the 2023 Bootcamp series.

Using a case-based approach and incorporating a lively expert panel component, the one-day course addressed management of psoriasis, eczema, hidradenitis suppurativa, alopecia areata, vitiligo, and more. The range of treatments discussed included injectable, oral and topical agents with various mechanisms of action. Attendees gained access to the digital Biologic Cheat Sheet, an interactive tool that can be assessed at the point of care to confirm dosing, prescribing information, and other data points.

“I really think we’re in a renaissance for the treatment of atopic dermatitis,” said faculty member David E. Cohen, MD, MPH, as he kicked off his presentation on eczema pathophysiology. Noting the rapid rate of therapeutic developments, he added, “Every one of these bootcamps has new information. It’s not easy to stay on top of this.”

New therapies can expand treatment options and change the way that clinicians think about disease. Early in her talk on psoriasis pathophysiology, faculty member April Armstrong, MD, MPH, urged prescribers to think differently about the common disease. “One of the first questions I challenge you to ask yourself is ‘Is psoriatic arthritis present?’,” she said. With today’s treatment options, the presence of joint symptoms may warrant use of a biologic treatment for a patient who does not have moderate to severe skin involvement.

Just as each Bootcamp is different, so is the approach to each dermatology patient. Summing up the panel’s discussion of a particularly challenging case, DEF Founder and Bootcamp Faculty member Joe Gorelick, MSN, FNP-C observed, “The answer is there is not one exact right answer.”

Space is still open to register for the DEF Biologic and Small Molecule NP/PA CME Bootcamp, Saturday, November 4 at the Fairmount Scottsdale Princess in Scottsdale, AZ. There is no cost to attend this CME event. A registration fee will be collected to reserve your space but will be refunded upon attendance of the in-person program.
